My family hadn't met him yet so I brought him home to meet them. He was as shy and unsociable as Joel, and my family didn't like him!
The story goes on but I'm not going to get into all the details of my dream. It ended well, even though I had to make some major decisions.
Anyway, the reason I'm writing about this is that I think I sometimes get clues from my dreams about how I might better act in my waking life.
I have all kinds of dreams and not all of them are meaningful. There are many dreams I forget the moment I wake up (which is such a weird thing about our memory). But some dreams stay with me, especially if I write them down in my dream journal the same day.
Some of those dreams probably mean nothing. But some feel meaningful. They seem to be showing me something that isn't very clear. The message is kind of hidden and I need to intentionally put some effort into figuring out what was going on and what the potential message could be.
This dream was one of those.
When I first woke up, and even for hours afterward, I didn't realize that the person in my dream was Joel, not Jim Carrey.

I had a dream last week.
I was in a relationship with this guy. He looked like Jim Carrey, but he wasn't actually Jim Carrey. The guy was Joel (the male main character in Eternal Sunshine of the Spotless Mind). We were in a relationship and were looking for a house to buy so we could start our life together.

Then I started wondering: Why would I dream about him when I hadn't thought about this movie for such a long time?! (The movie has always been one of my all-time favourites but I hadn't watched it in years).
Something interesting happened in my dream: scenes from the movie that I had completely forgotten came back to me in my dreams. They felt almost new to me. For example, I remembered the house we were about to buy in my dream. When I woke up, I realized that it looked a lot like the house in the movie where Joel and Clementine break in and stay for a while.
In my dream, I remember not liking the house that much. But Joel showed me the window and said: Look. You can hear the sound of the waves when you open the window.
He opened it, and the sound of the sea was beautiful.

In the movie, the house is actually next to the ocean and the waves are crashing against the shore while Joel and Clementine are there. I had completely forgotten those scenes, but they came back in my dream.
I kept thinking about the dream the whole day. While I wasn't serving any clients at work, I let myself drown in those thoughts. When I came home, I started searching for clips from the movie on the internet. Then I got this intense feeling that I needed to watch the whole thing and I did so.
I was looking for a clue and I think all those subconscious thoughts, combined with watching the movie again, gave me one.
Have you watched Eternal Sunshine of the Spotless Mind? Let me give you a very short summary:
Joel and Clementine get into a romantic relationship. At some point, Clementine, who has a volatile personality but also seems creative and excited about life, decides to erase Joel from her memories. When Joel finds out what she has done and decides to do the same thing and erase Clementine from his memory.

The next day, while all his memories of Clamentine were erased he suddenly gets this intense feeling that he needs to be somewhere (the house by the ocean that I talked about above) and he doesn't know why. Clementine was heading there too, without knowing why.

They meet again and somehow, despite having no memory of their relationship, they start developing romantic feelings for each other again.

You can watch the movie to find out what happens next ;)
My point is that I think I may have gotten a potential answer to something the world, life, higher consciousness, or whatever the big unknown is, might have been trying to teach me.

Feel free to judge me for that if you want. I don't really mind and I cannot control it anyways :) I just like sharing these thoughts here and I hope you can bear with me. Are you ready?
Well, I think the lesson might be this:
What if, before we come into this world, our memories of whatever came before birth are erased? But some kind of core emotion or feeling remains and maybe that feeling guides us toward certain people, certain places, and certain decisions without us knowing why. Maybe there are things we recognize without remembering that we've seen them before.
I know this explanation sounds vague. It is vague to me too, but I have this feeling that there is some trace of reality in it.
Have a good time everyone
