Hello from Canada.
We got back home a couple of days ago, but there have been so many things to take care of that I literally did not get a chance to even open my laptop.
A messy situation up on our return
A couple of days before coming back home, our building manager in Big White informed us that the building's water pump had broken and leaked into our apartment.
They said they need to open the walls in the entrance and the kitchen to dry everything properly; otherwise, mold could start growing. While assessing the damage, they discovered asbestos inside the walls of our unit, which made the situation much more complicated!
Now they have to remove a large portion of the walls, remove the asbestos, dry everything thoroughly, and then rebuild the walls. This means we have to pack up everything in that part of the apartment, move it into a storage locker, and evacuate our home for about two weeks while the work is being done.
We have been talking to our insurance company to find out how much they will cover because asbestos remediation costs around $20,000 for us, which is just insane.
To make things even more chaotic, before leaving for Asia we had started moving our belongings from our storage locker in Chilliwack into our new apartment. Therefore, there are still boxes everywhere, making our tiny apartment feel even smaller.
Jetlag is intense
It is 2 a.m. right now, and I cannot sleep. I am badly jetlagged.
Jetlag feels like a real sickness. It is much harder than I expected, and I do not feel like myself at all. I barely get four hours of sleep each day, and it shows on my face. My eyes look tired, my skin looks terrible, and my brain is not functioning properly. I feel confused and drained all the time. Even the simplest tasks feel overwhelming.
I guess it will take a good two weeks before I fully recover.
Exciting days are coming
Once I get over the jetlag and start feeling more alert and energetic again, I will jump right into all the exciting projects I have been looking forward to. I am especially impatient to continue learning Japanese and to start hiking the mountain trails again.
I do need to take it easy, though, because I am still recovering from surgery. My calves are still very swollen, and every time I go for a walk they become even heavier. This morning I did some light exercise, and my calves definitely did not like it.
So I will take things slowly and hope my legs cooperate with me because there is so much I want to do this summer that requires them. π
Seasonal cleaning
This morning I packed away all my winter clothes and sports gear into boxes, and we will take them to our storage locker in Kelowna.
Tomorrow morning, we will go to Chilliwack to bring back another load of our belongings so we can gradually empty that storage locker.
In short, our return home has been a bit rough, but I know brighter days are coming. π
I made this video about it:
